Root canal treatment is treatment often required to save badly decayed or abscessed teeth. This treatment involves removal of the infected nerve tissue from inside the tooth. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned and sealed.

The treatment is more often carried out over several appointments with up to 10-12 weeks between each appointment.

Once a tooth has had root canal treatment, it is often recommended that a crown be placed to prevent fracture of the remaining tooth structure.
